Listique’s Recommendation

Blakes Hotel, situated in Kensington, boasts a certain glamour and romance that attracts an international crowd. The bar, restaurant, and Matthew Williamson-styled garden make for a thriving West London scene. The vibe is bohemian and shabby yet luxurious, with black lacquer and gold detailing throughout. The staff is friendly, and the garden space is lovely in good weather.

About Blakes | Five-Star Boutique Hotel

Blakes Hotel, opened in 1978, was designed by Anouska Hempel. The hotel's aesthetic is a mix of luxury and bohemian with a lush mood created out of a few Asian market finds and fabric remnants. The hotel is cobbled together from old houses, giving it a maze-like feel with a tiny, extraordinarily slow lift. The Matthew Williamson-designed garden space is a highlight, and the restaurant offers fancy comfort food with Asian twists. However, there is little consistency in the rooms, and some details such as grubby wardrobes, outdated music systems, and disposable tissues tied up with black ribbon in the bathrooms are particularly poor.
