Artes Mundi

Artes Mundi is an international contemporary art prize and exhibition based in Cardiff, Wales. It was established in 2003 and takes place every two years.

The aim of Artes Mundi is to recognize and support contemporary artists who are addressing and responding to the social realities of our time. The prize money for the award is £40,000, with the winner being selected by an international panel of judges. The exhibitions feature the work of six shortlisted artists, who are selected based on their contribution to contemporary art and their potential for future growth. The exhibition is held at the National Museum Cardiff and showcases a wide range of media, including painting, sculpture, photography, video, and installation.

Alongside the exhibition, Artes Mundi also organizes a range of events and programs, including talks, workshops, and educational activities, aimed at engaging a diverse audience with contemporary art and the social issues that it addresses. The Artes Mundi prize has become an important platform for contemporary artists and has helped to raise the profile of contemporary art in Wales and beyond.
