Johnny Van Haeften is a veteran figure in the art world. He started his career in the PR and Stamp Departments at Christie’s, where he felt a strong affinity with works by the Dutch Masters. This affinity is perhaps a nod to his Dutch ancestry. In 1977 he and his wife opened their first gallery just off Bond Street, which at the time the only one in London operating exclusively in this niche. Prior to opening his Richmond gallery, Van Haeften ran a much larger gallery of 225 paintings in Mayfair. When he relocated to Richmond, he reduced the size of the gallery to just 50 exquisite paintings, meaning it is easier for visitors to absorb his collection. Specialising primarily in Dutch and Flemish paintings, the paintings in this smaller gallery portray scenes from times long past as well as many religious pieces.
