Soho packs more good restaurants per street than anywhere else in London. The density is staggering — you can walk from a Michelin-starred Taiwanese bao counter to a 200-year-old French brasserie in under two minutes, passing a Neapolitan pizza joint, a Japanese omakase bar, and a members' club restaurant on the way.
What makes Soho dining different from Mayfair is the energy. Restaurants here feed on the neighbourhood's creative industries — media, film, music, fashion — and the atmosphere reflects it. Less formal, more alive, and often better value.
Dean Street & Old Compton Street
The twin arteries of Soho dining. Dean Street Townhouse, Quo Vadis, and Barrafina anchor the scene, but the smaller places — the Thai cafés, the wine bars, the late-night Chinatown overflow — are what make the area unmissable.

Booking Tips
Soho restaurants fill up fast, especially Thursday to Saturday. Many don't take bookings at all — arrive early (before 6:30pm) or late (after 9:30pm) for the best chance of a walk-in. Pre-theatre menus (typically 5-6:30pm) offer outstanding value at otherwise expensive addresses.
